We made a money+ app that gives everyone high-end rewards on every payment. Fluz aims to disrupt the payment experience by making it more social. Positioned at the intersection of social media, payments, and rewards, we are a fast-moving FinTech company experiencing significant growth. We sponsor H1B work visas.
We are looking for a Back End Engineer to help build production-grade services, APIs, and data systems that power our consumer and business products. This role will focus primarily on the server and service layer, turning product requirements into secure, reliable, and scalable systems that move money, issue cards, and deliver rewards.
We are looking for developers with experience building enterprise-grade back-end systems. You will be a member of the overall engineering team and will work alongside product, design, QA, and front-end developers building out various components of a complex financial application. This position will report to Engineering leadership.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain back-end services and APIs (GraphQL and REST) that power our web and mobile client applications and partner integrations
- Translate product requirements into well-structured data models, service contracts, and technical designs
- Build and evolve services across our payments stack, including virtual card issuing, gift cards, wallets, deposits, transfers, and money movement
- Implement authentication, authorization, and role-based access controls for multi-user business accounts, including approval and permission flows
- Design PostgreSQL schemas, migrations, indexes, and queries, and use Redis for caching, queuing, and rate limiting
- Write idempotent, transactional logic for financial operations, including retries, webhooks, event publishing, and reconciliation
- Integrate with third-party partners such as banking, card processing, KYC/KYB, and fraud providers
- Optimize service performance, reliability, and cost across our GCP infrastructure
- Investigate and resolve production incidents and user-reported bugs using logs, metrics, tracing, and analytics tools
- Participate in code reviews, testing, architecture discussions, and the regular release cycle alongside QA
- Help monitor production systems and respond quickly to security, compliance, and reliability concerns
- Work with product and operations to architect systems and data flows, connecting data from our touch points into central systems and automating manual processes
Qualifications

- Deep understanding of JavaScript/ES6/TypeScript
- Experience designing and building GraphQL and/or REST APIs

- Experience with an ORM or query builder (e.g., Sequelize, Knex)
- Experience with caching and messaging systems such as Redis or Pub/Sub
- Experience building service-oriented or microservice architectures
- Understanding of back-end security best practices, including authentication (JWT/OAuth), authorization, encryption, and handling of sensitive data
- Experience with Docker, cloud platforms (GCP preferred), and CI/CD pipelines
- Understanding of distributed cloud systems
- Experience with Git-based workflows
- Ability to break down and articulate solutions to complex problems
- Knack for writing clean, readable, maintainable and reusable code
- Willingness to learn and teach
- Desire to be involved in product definition
- Ability to adapt and learn new languages and tools as needs arise
- A love for automation
- Natural Problem Solver
- Strong sense of urgency in a professional setting
