About Fluz
Fluz is a rewards-driven digital wallet that enables consumers and businesses to earn cashback while spending smarter. Users fund their wallet through multiple sources and can use virtual debit cards and closed-loop gift cards to pay, earn, and manage their money with flexibility. As we scale, fraud risk becomes more complex—requiring dedicated leadership to stay ahead of evolving threats. We are hiring our first Director of Fraud to build and lead this critical function from the ground up.
About the Role
The Director of Fraud will lead all aspects of fraud prevention, detection, and mitigation at Fluz. This is a newly established leadership role, responsible for setting the fraud strategy, building a team, and owning the tools and controls that protect our business and users. Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, this leader will work cross-functionally with product, data science, engineering, operations, and support to build scalable defenses across the customer lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings a builder’s mindset, operational rigor, and a strong understanding of fraud vectors across both B2C and B2B fintech.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fraud Review Oversight
- Build and lead a team to perform manual fraud reviews across onboarding, transactions, and account activity.
- Design scalable workflows that blend manual case handling with AI-driven fraud detection.
- Create a feedback loop between manual reviews and automated systems to continuously improve filter accuracy.
2. Fraud Filter Management
- Define and evolve fraud filter logic across different products, funding sources, customer types, and platform channels.
- Collaborate with the data team to build rules, tune models, and monitor filter performance.
- Own reporting on filter effectiveness, false positives, and fraud loss trends.
- Ensure new product launches are supported by proactive fraud controls.
3. Risk Calibration & Strategic Controls
- Work with data science to establish baselines for user friction vs. financial loss.
- Identify calculated risk opportunities that enable business growth with acceptable exposure.
- Tailor fraud defenses to minimize impact on legitimate customers across varied segments.
4. Monitoring for Fraud Attacks & System Weaknesses
- Lead response to fraud spikes, coordinated attacks, or new threat patterns.
- Quickly surface vulnerabilities in systems, policies, or user journeys that can be exploited.
- Coordinate internal response during urgent or widespread fraud events.
5. Friction Reduction & User Impact Management
- Identify and resolve high-friction points caused by false positives in fraud systems.
- Streamline fraud handling for users incorrectly flagged during onboarding or transactions.
- Ensure that risk controls are adaptive and not overly burdensome for trusted customers.
6. Account Takeover (ATO) Defense
- Implement layered ATO prevention measures, including login monitoring, MFA triggers, and session intelligence.
- Enforce controls for verifying card ownership and preventing misuse of stolen identities.
- Continually test and evolve defenses as attackers change tactics.
