We are looking for a Data Engineer Lead to own the architecture, reliability, and roadmap of Fluz’s data platform. You will lead and grow a team of data engineers, set technical standards for pipelines, warehousing, and integration, and partner with engineering, data science, finance, and business leaders so that data across the company is accessible, secure, and trustworthy.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end architecture of the data platform, including ingestion, orchestration (Apache Airflow), transformation (dbt), warehousing, and serving layers on GCP
• Lead, mentor, and hire data engineers; run code and design reviews, set priorities, and support each engineer’s growth
• Define and maintain the data engineering roadmap in partnership with engineering, data science, and business stakeholders, balancing new capabilities against platform reliability and technical debt
• Set and enforce standards for data modeling, pipeline design, testing, documentation, and CI/CD, ensuring production-grade automated testing, deployment, and monitoring
• Establish data quality, observability, and SLA practices, including automated validation, alerting, lineage, and incident response for critical pipelines
• Drive data governance and security for sensitive financial and customer data, including access controls, PII handling, and support for compliance, audit, and sponsor-bank reporting requirements
• Oversee integration frameworks for diverse sources (APIs, vendor and partner data, Change Data Capture from production databases) into the warehouse
• Partner with data scientists to design and scale infrastructure for machine learning workflows and cloud-based ML deployment
• Manage cost and performance of GCP data infrastructure, including capacity planning and warehouse optimization
• Evaluate and introduce new frameworks and technologies, making build-vs-buy decisions and communicating trade-offs to leadership
• Remain hands-on, contributing to critical pipelines, architecture work, and complex technical problems

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field; Master’s a plus
• 6+ years of data engineering experience, including 2+ years leading engineers or owning a data platform as a technical lead
• Proven track record designing and scaling data architectures and ETL/ELT pipelines in production
• Expert SQL proficiency for complex queries, data modeling, and performance optimization
• Strong software engineering foundation and experience building OOP systems in Python
• Deep hands-on experience with Apache Airflow, dbt, and a major cloud platform such as GCP (preferred), AWS, or Azure, including cloud data warehouses (e.g., BigQuery)
• Experience with Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads
• Experience implementing data quality, observability, and governance frameworks
• Ability to translate business needs into technical plans and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to lead effectively in a remote environment

Nice-to-have skills

• Experience in FinTech, payments, or other regulated industries; Change Data Capture (CDC); streaming systems (e.g., Pub/Sub, Kafka); ML infrastructure and big data; working in AGILE environments

Our Mobile application is built with React Native and Apollo on the Front End. Backend is built with Node.JS, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Redis deployed on GCP through CI and Docker Images.
